Canadian Research Proves Viagra Effective in Boosting Performance of the Heart's Right Ventricle
Date: 11 th July 2007
In a recent experiment conducted by researchers at the University of Alberta , it has been clinically proved that the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra can accelerate heart performance in patients with failing right ventricle. As soon as the study results are out, a senior author of the study Dr. Evangelos Michelakis commented that the resultant research findings have shown the exemplary performance of a drug in improving the ailing right ventricle of the heart without having any impact on the left ventricle.
According to Dr. Jayan Nagendran, the first author of the study, children as well as adults suffer from a host of diseased conditions that make it immensely important for the right ventricle to function effectively and when performance enhancement of the right ventricle becomes necessary, Viagra can step in and help. He further added that on some occasions such as in lung transplant surgery , the right ventricle might fail and result in death and in such a condition Viagra might prove a suitable assistance.
The results are expected to be published shortly in the Journal Circulation.
