Date:1st October 2008
After undertaking a detailed study of 31 gay men in Sydney, a researcher Professor Martin Holt of the National Centre in HIV Social Research has arrived to the conclusion that the anti-impotency medicine Viagra helps in safe sex practices though he has issued warnings to gay men on the probable dangers associated with the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra.
As Professor Martin Holt carried on with the interview-based Viagra study on 31 gay men, he realized that the erectile dysfunction medicine helps in the process of condom use and safe sex. Further, in a research paper titled "Medicine, Risk Factor, Pleasure Enhancer Or Safe Sex Aid? The Use of Viagra pill and Other Sexuopharmaceuticals by Gay Men" that he presented at the ASHM conference held recently, Professor Martin Holt issued warnings that men might be taking an altogether rosy view of Viagra-like medicines meant for treating erectile dysfunction in men.
However, according to Martin Holt, the idea that Viagra assists in the process of condom use and safe sex can be dangerous and alongside he elaborates that if people commonly believe that the anti-impotency medicine Viagra helps in committing safe sex and there is little awareness with regard to the idea that Viagra is capable of facilitating unsafe sex, then a thorough need for education seems to be there.
Martin Holt also threw light on the risks associated with mixing Viagra and other medicines, especially amyl and poppers that are capable of causing a sudden decrease in blood pressure.
