| Scientist Facilitating The Discovery Of Viagra Will Soon Be Inducted Into The Prestigious Hall Of Distinguished Alumni
Date:6th August 2008
Dr. Sharron Halcomb Francis, a scientist that led to the development of Pfizer's anti-impotency medicine Viagra, is likely to be inducted into the Hall Of Distinguished Alumni soon and altogether Jimmie Gipson, the Chairman& CEO of Houchens Industries as well as Bill Strode, a photojournalist that has won the Pulitzer prize, are also likely to gain entry into the Western Kentucky University's Hall of Distinguished Alumni shortly.
Dr. Sharron Halcomb Francis, the researcher who assisted in the development of Viagra, is known for undertaking extensive researches focused on mechanism cells utilized for the regulation of their functions that include cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases as well as cyclic nucleotide-dependent protein kinases and the prominent role played by them in male impotency, diabetes, asthma and hypertension.
In the year 1970, Dr. Sharron Halcomb Francis initiated an association with Professor Jackie D. Corbin to focus on cyclic GMP that regulates contraction in muscles surrounding the blood vessels and succeeded in purifying and characterizing a protein known as phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5), that functions to dissociate cGMP and adjust blood pressure. However, in a clinical experiment, when the Pfizer scientists evaluated another effect of the anti-impotency medication Viagra in regulating blood vessel functions and figuring out a treatment of male impotency, it led to the birth of the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra.
Sources make it apparent that Dr. Sharron Halcomb Francis and other scientists would join Western Kentucky University's Hall of Distinguished Alumni during WKU's Homecoming celebration that is likely to be held shortly.
