| Pfizer Incl.'s Viagra Is Likely To Be Available Over-the-counter Soon
Date:January 10, 2007
An article appeared in The Business, a British weekly Business magazine, stating that Pfizer Incl. is contemplating on making the company's erectile dysfunction drug Viagra available over-the-counter. In response to it, the New York based drug manufacturing company has issued the statement that it is indeed thinking to launch Viagra as an over-the-counter (OTC) medicine in order to make the drug more popular than Cialis, the Eli Lilly and Co.'s anti-impotency drug that acts on the body for full 36 hours.
OTC medicines sell in lesser numbers in comparison to the prescription based drugs and are also available in limited dosages. The decision to launch Viagra over-the-counter by Pfizer comes in the wake of Cialis sales surpassing the sales of the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra which is a meager $423 million in the third quarter.
This decision made by Pfizer is nothing but sort of a new resolution by the company, as a statement submitted to the Reuters (news agency) by Pfizer Incl. has revealed that Pfizer Incl. is always on its way to launch new versions of Viagra, namely new indications, formulations, over-the-counter and so on.
