| Educational Ad Campaign for Viagra by Pfizer
Date: April 12, 2006
Pfizer, the pioneer in providing a potency pill is going to launch the second educational advertising campaign to complement the already running first ad campaign to boost up the sale for Viagra.
The campaigns are targeted to educate men about the facts of erectile dysfunction and encourage them to seek help to get over the unwanted situation. The ongoing ad campaign followed by the new one will lift up the dropping sales ratio of Viagra, a well-thought-of marketing strategy by Pfizer.
The tagline from the first ad “Make the call” insisted upon making a call to know more information about erectile dysfunction, the condition and doctor’s recommendation, while in the latest ad a doctor stands in an empty stadium, as if addressing a large number of middle aged people suffering from ED, and the tagline shows, “ Just ask today”. The educational ad campaigns aim at helping men to overcome their embarrassment to discuss the problem of ED with their doctor and deliver basic information regarding the problem, said Tim Pigot, Director of the Company’s U.S. Viagra Team.
The ED market is not growing as predicted by the market analysts. They forecasted that the erectile dysfunction market would expand with the introduction of Cialis, marketed by Eli Lilly and Co. and ICOS Corp. and Levitra, sold by GlaxoSmithKline PLC and Schering-Plough Corp. But the competition subdued the sales of Viagra by 2 percent to $1.65 billion are sliding 11 percent in 2004.
GlaxoSmithKline and Schering-Plough already contemplated on ED awareness campaigns for Levitra last December and rolled out branded ads last month. So the Brand war is about to begin, just wait and watch who wins the battle and who wins the war.
