Date:January 6, 2007
The drug flibanserin, manufactured by the German pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim, when tested as an anti-depressant on women suffering from depression and decreased sexual desire, it was found that the medicine restored female sexual desire to a significant extent. As the female sexual performance enhancing effects of flibanserin is discovered, the drug is now being considered as the upcoming female Viagra.
This new drug flibanserin that increases female sexual desire drastically, functions by stimulating parts of the brain associated with emotions and pleasure and also by influencing a circuit that governs female sexual desire and arousal.
Charles de Wet, the UK medical director of the German-based company Boehringer Ingelheim, states that the objective of the drug flibanserin is to normalize woman`s sexual desire. He also makes it evident that female sexual dysfunction is not only related to blood flow but also influenced by the stimulation of the various parts of the brain dealing with sexual stimuli. According to him, no excessive side-effect from the drug has been reported in any clinical trial so far.
The drug flibanserin manufacturing company, Boehringer Ingelheim is presently experimenting the medicine on 5,000 women in 220 different places and is hopeful that flibanserin would be approved by the US Food and Drugs Administration in 2009.
