| New Technology To Check Viagra Authenticity In The Offing
Date: September 25, 2006
According to a revelation by confidential sources, Pfizer, the Viagra manufacturer is on its way to use RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology as a counter measure to the increasing level of counterfeited Viagra medicines in the pharmaceutical market.
For the Viagra tablets to be sold in the United States , Pfizer has formulated a new procedure. This process starts with the application of a passive high-frequency tag to each Viagra bottle. In each and every Viagra labeling, the first RFID interrogator encodes an electronic product code (EPC) to each label and thereafter the confirmation as to whether the tag is successfully encoded becomes the responsibility of the second interrogator. The second interrogator also reads the unique identification on the tag's chip thus making it possible for Pfizer to store chip ID and Electronic Product Code (EPC) in a database.
When Viagra pills land up with pharmacists or drug sellers, through the use of an RFID interrogator connected to Pfizer's RxAuthentication Service via a secured internet connection they can easily detect and confirm the authentication of each tag`s chip ID and EPC.
If the chip ID and EPC don`t match with that of Pfizer`s, the service immediately labels the drug as counterfeit and spreads the message to Pfizer`s MIS (Medical information Servies) employees to isolate the fake medicine. Thereafter the fake Viagra medicines are sent to Pfizer for detailed investigation.
Pfizerhas pronounced itself as the first pharmaceutical company to gain approval from the FDA to indulge in drug checking through EPC authentication.
