Pfizer's Marketing Campaign for Viagra Questioned
Date: February 6, 2006
Aids Healthcare Foundation (AHF) group, USA 's largest group to monitor AIDS awareness and provide direct treatment to the affected lot in the various nations of the world, including the countries of Africa , Central America and Asia , has dubbed the recent marketing campaign of Pfizer, the brand manufacturer of the anti-erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, as "reckless and irresponsible."
The Aids Healthcare Foundation or the AHF is of the view that Pfizer is responsible for promoting unsafe sex and thus, is adding to the number of the AIDS cases in the long run. This was said keeping in view the latest full page print campaign for Viagra in which a handsome man, who is a little over 40, is seen grinning by looking deliberately at the camera, along with the tagline below," Be this Sunday's MVP."
AHF criticizes Pfizer for promoting Viagra especially around the public holidays and encouraging the recreational use of Viagra. According to AHF, Pfizer is trying to increase its sales around the public holidays keeping in view the use of Viagra as a party drug during these holidays.
AHF has already written a letter to FDA requesting the medical regulatory body to re-evaluate the advertising campaign of Pfizer's Viagra and to consider asking the ad campaign for its full withdrawal for the good of public's health. A similar letter was sent to Pfizer DEO, Dr. Hank McKinnell, as well. Now AHF is keeping a close watch on the advertising campaign of Pfizer, regarding Viagra, on the forthcoming occasions of St. Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day.
