| Pfizer Emerges Victorious In A Viagra Ruling In China
Date: December 28, 2006
On the charges of infringing the registered trademark of Viagra, Pfizer Incl., the Viagra manufacturing company registered cases against Beijing Health New Concept Pharmaceutical Co Ltd and Lianhuan Pharmaceutical Co Ltd in September 2005 and as a consequence, the Beijing No 1 Intermediate People's court in China recently ordered the two companies to stop the manufacture and sales of blue rhomboid pills similar to Viagra and slapped a fine of 600,000 yuan (76,726 US dollars) on them.
Pfizer Incl. sued the company duo on the charge that their product, Weige" which is actually the Chinese name of Viagra violated the registered trademark of Viagra. It was further supposed that the infringement activities of these two companies were guided by Guangzhou Viaman Pharmaceutical Co Ltd, a company against whom Pfizer had filed a case earlier for manufacturing another anti-impotency drug in 1998 under the registration name Weige
But according to a press release by Xinhua news agency, the court didn't find any evidence stating that Viaman Pharmaceutical Co Ltd was the guiding force behind the infringement activities of the two companies.
