Date:22nd April 2008
According to sources, two Ayruvedic drugs, considered to have properties similar to the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra , are being presently experimented on rats and pigs and if they prove capable of treating sexual problems in rats and pigs, they are likely to be tested on human beings at the earliest.
These two herbal medicines are manufactured by two Mumbai-based pharmaceutical companies and a team of doctors leaded by sexologist Dr Narayana Reddy. The testing of these medicines on rats and pigs is being carried out at the Post Graduate Institute of Basic Sciences, University of Madras and it is observed that the experimentation has yielded a few positive results.
Dr Narayana Reddy specifies that in the next six months, if the drugs prove to be completely successful in treating sexual disorders in rats and pigs, he and his associates would start to experiment the medicines on humans. He also makes it clear that it cannot be stated right now whether the two medicines will have side-effects but altogether hopes that these medicines would minimize side-effects to a great extent and if it happens the patients suffering from contra-indications for chemical preparations would have a new optional mode of treatment.
According to revelations put forward by the drug manufacturers, the common man would be able to afford these medicines.
