Viagra Fears
The fear related to Viagra intake that the anti-impotence drug Viagra may damage the optic nerves has been eased by a new study. However researchers found that the drug may cause damage to the optic nerves of such people whose blood vessels are already in a poor state.
Also there had been fears that usage of Viagra gives rise to more of heart attacks. This fear originated because of the reports that there had been more than hundred heart attacks and deaths among the Viagra users. But the latest study highlights that Viagra is unlikely to cause problems in the heart patients who do not have severe disease and are not taking nitrate drugs.
According to the study 105 men aged 66 years were picked up to undergo the exercise test twice. The men had to undergo the test at the gap of one day, once after taking Viagra and the next test after taking a dummy pill
Most men developed ischemia during both tests, but Viagra did not increase the risk of ischemia, it did not worsen it and the condition was not severe or harmful, said Dr. Patricia Pellikka, a Clinic cardiologist.
Viagra "had no adverse effect on symptoms or how long the men were able to exercise," she said.
The study is the first to examine Viagra's effects on the heart by using an exercise stress test
This study will go a long way towards making (heart) patients and physicians more comfortable with using Viagra.
