Viagra in the News Again
Date: December 16, 2005
Viagra is in the news again. This time it is in connection with a case where a pharmacist is accused of 12 charges of misconduct and now the man has to wait till next year to know whether he can really work as a pharmacist further or not.
More than 200 Viagra tablets went missing from the Peckham pharmacy when Derek Phillips was in charge, a medical panel was told this week, prompting an investigation by his bosses.
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) heard how the missing drugs were just one of a series of allegations against him. Out-of-date medication was also kept on the shelf with new stock, and dangerous drugs were not stored or accounted for correctly, the panel was told.
About 115 100mg, and 176, 50mg Viagra tablets were missing. About 100 tablets had come into the pharmacy since June 2002 and could not be accounted for. They weren't in the pharmacy and there were no records relating to their supply out of the pharmacy. Phillips denied the allegations and blamed about all this on the dirty conditions of staff shortages and his colleagues stealing from the shop.
Phillips has been suspended after the allegations surfaced in February 2003.
