Local Markets of Bangladesh Towns Flood with Counterfeit Drugs
Date: January 4, 2006
The local town markets of Bangladesh are flooded with low quality, counterfeit and smuggled medicines. This is so because Bangladesh has got many medicines at a comparatively higher price than what it is sold in its neighboring country.
Most of the wholesale and retail shops at Brahmanbaria's Hospital Road , Jail Road , Court Road were selling contraband and smuggled drugs unabatedly, sources said.
These unscrupulous medicine traders were allegedly paying tolls to the law-enforcing agencies and customs officials for running their illegal drug business smoothly..
Sources said, most of the low quality Indian medicines were smuggled into the country through the border areas of the district. Indian-manufactured 'Viagra' tablets were also available in some shops. Lack of strict measures against the drug traffickers and. unscrupulous traders was blamed for continuation of such trading.
