Flu Project Money Spent on Viagra
Date: December 15, 2005
The House of Representatives in the US have decided to use $90 million from a pandemic-flu preparedness program to pay for Viagra and other impotence drugs instead.
Republicans had blocked a massive $602 billion measure to fund labor, health and education programs last month, citing various concerns.
The main opponent was Rep. Bill Thomas (R-Calif.), who opposed a provision that blocked Medicare and Medicaid from paying for erectile dysfunction drugs.
The bill passed yesterday reallocated $180 million in spending - half of it for erectile dysfunction drugs.
Thomas' office did not return a call seeking comment later in the night.
Thomas' campaign committee has gotten $114,000 from health care lobbyists this year, according to 'PoliticalMoneyLine'.
